High Wind Design

FLORIDA has special designated high wind areas and they are defined as HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zones). Florida’s most well-known HVHZ area is BROWARD & DADE Counties. Metro has the following High Wind Design approvals:

FL-04 Bldg Code Approval - # FL-698-R1 - APPROVED

FL-04 Bldg Code Approval - # FL-6710 HVHZ - APPROVED

Dade Co., NOA # 07-0511.11 - APPROVED

Metro’s FL-6710 HVHZ Install Instructions are shown on two (2) pages as PDF’s from the www.floridabuilding.org website. The file is: FL6710 R0 II FL-6710HVHZ-BAT2-pg6-3-06.pdf. They define fastening location, size and number and are identified as: DIRECT-to-DECK or BATTEN installations. Merely select the type of construction-install application you’re using and attach to your permit application data for presenting to your local city building department within the respective HVHZ area.
